Get Involved — Parents and Family

Semester at Sea is one of the most rewarding and broadening experiences your voyagers can undertake during their college years.

In a single semester, your voyager will gain rare insights into the complex circuitry of our world, which will result in academic inspiration and growth, expanded career options, and a level of personal development that could not occur during a traditional semester of college.

As key supporters in the experience of your voyager, we extend our thanks and gratitude for your support and encouragement on this life-changing venture.

As you are on this journey with your student, we encourage you to get involved with Semester at Sea before, during, and after their voyage.

Parent Events

Hosted by the SAS Parents Council, the Bon Voyage and Welcome Home Receptions occur the evening before the voyagers depart for their journey and arrive back home. The programs include information about the next day’s embarkation or disembarkation, what to expect when your voyager returns, and your lifelong relationship with Semester at Sea.

Parents Council

The Semester at Sea Parents Council is a great way for you to remain connected to the program, and we look forward to seeing you at events — and perhaps on a voyage of your own one day as a Lifelong Learner on Semester at Sea!

Hear From Past Voyagers

Headshot of Missy Greis

I was a second generation voyager in 1987. My mom completed her voyage in 1963, and my daughter is a Spring 2020 alumna. SAS is life changing. The ability to experience world travel and so many different cultures while gaining academic credit is unequalled, but the lifelong bonds of friendship are invaluable and so precious! As Dean Tymitz says: The best is yet to come.
