Experience
Student Stories & Mentors
Who better to share the transformative Semester at Sea experience than students themselves? You can chat with recent alumni directly via our Global Ambassador Program or Diversity Peer Mentor Program, or you can scroll below and explore more student stories!
Global Ambassador Program
Global Ambassadors are recent alumni who are still enrolled as undergraduate students — possibly at your campus or a campus near you! They are trained to answer questions you may have about the program and share their unique experiences.

Diversity Peer Mentor Program
Before and after each voyage, SAS can connect recent alumni with prospective voyagers who share similar identities. This is designed to be an informal mentoring program to share personal voyage experiences. Although we cannot guarantee to meet all mentorship requests, we will do our best to pair as many mentors and mentees as possible.

Kenya is one of our most impactful and frequently visited ports—and for good reason. 🇰🇪
From academic field classes and local homestays to conversations with community leaders and time in nature, voyagers experience Kenya through meaningful, on-the-ground engagement.
This video from our Spring 2025 Voyage highlights what it’s like to be in port: learning alongside locals, exploring complex global issues, and gaining perspective far beyond the classroom.

What happens after the voyage ends? 🛳️ 🌍
For many voyagers, the Semester at Sea journey continues well beyond disembarkation, often bringing new opportunities for reflection and growth.
Viviana Premazzi, PhD, who taught Intercultural Communication on the Fall 2024 Voyage, saw how students and staculty were processing their return home in unique and meaningful ways.
In response, she created Coming Home: Life After Semester at Sea, a YouTube series where voyagers share their experiences of re-entry and the strategies that are helping them stay grounded and connected.
We sat down with Viviana to hear what inspired the series, what she’s learned, and what advice she has for anyone adjusting to life after SAS.

Not just where we went—but who we went with. 🛳️ 🗺️

“What have you learned on this journey?”
It’s almost hard to remember the people who stepped onto the ship in Thailand on January 5. Since that day, we’ve traversed countries and continents, plunged ourselves into new places and cultures, expanded our minds and our circle of friends.
In the process of seeing the world, we learned about ourselves. About what’s important to us, about gratitude, about community, and belonging, and home. We learned about what it means to be human. That what connects us is stronger than what is different. How similar we all are.
And over these 106 days, we changed. Our transformations may have been life-shifting or barely-perceptible, internal or external (looking at you, Neptune Day!), or still blossoming and yet to be fully revealed. But one thing is certain, none of us are the same person we were on January 5.
Voyage 135, it’s been a joy to learn and grow with you over the past four months. May the journey that lie before you be as awakening as the one from which you just disembarked.
Vibe and thrive, 135
