Semester at Sea Day at CSU

On “Semester at Sea Day,” CSU students can apply for free, learn about new certificate offering, and win a scholarship to sail

This Thursday, March 28, the Office of Education Abroad and Semester at Sea team up to offer free food, prizes and a tuition, room and board scholarship to one lucky Ram

FORT COLLINS, CO – On Thursday, March 28, Colorado State University students can – in just a few minutes time – apply for free to study on Semester at Sea, meet faculty, staff, and students who have sailed, and even win prizes – including free tuition, room and board for either a Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 voyage.

In partnership with the Education Abroad Office, Semester at Sea will host a free application day event in the Lory Student Center Room 324 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those attending the event will be able to apply to sail without paying the usual $75 application fee. They will also get to talk to CSU faculty, staff, and students who have sailed, grab free pizza and cookies, and spin the wheel for prizes ranging from stickers to hooded sweatshirts. And one accepted student for the Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 voyage will also win a full tuition, room, and board scholarship to sail. (More information below.)

Financial aid officers from CSU and Semester at Sea will also be on hand to answer student questions and share how they together distribute more than $350,000 in scholarships and grants to CSU students each year.

Attendees will also be among the first to learn about an exciting new certificate being offered exclusively to CSU students sailing on Semester at Sea this fall. The new 12-credit Certificate in Global Engagement will introduce students to global issues, international and intercultural perspectives, and sustainable development approaches. As the certificate description says, it will help to distinguish recipients “as individuals prepared to positively impact our world.”

CSU students unable to attend the event can still apply for free before midnight on Thursday by using the waiver code “SASRams” when submitting. All CSU students who apply on Thursday and are accepted, including those who don’t attend the event, will be entered into the tuition, room, and board scholarship drawing. The winner will be announced in mid-April.

The full scholarship giveaway will include tuition, room, and board only. Eligible students are those accepted for and sailing on either the Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 voyage and they must be first-time voyagers who will be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at the time of their voyage. CSU students who already applied and were accepted for one of the two eligible voyages will be included in the drawing.

CSU is the academic partner of Semester at Sea. The more than 1,000 students who sail each year from more than 250 universities earn a CSU transcript while visiting 10 countries on three continents.
