IE 472 Education for Global Peace [CRN 78161]
Overview of Course
This course dives into what it means to work towards peace both locally and globally, focusing on practical actions and educational tools that can make a difference. On the Semester at Sea Voyage, we will look at how peace efforts vary in different parts of the world, influenced by unique histories and challenges, but also are connected by common themes. In this course, you will explore peacekeeping (maintaining peace), peacemaking (resolving conflicts), and peace-building (creating long-lasting peace) at both small and large scales. You will discover how education plays a crucial role in all these areas, learning skills like reflective thinking, deep listening, bridging differences, and imagining new possibilities for peace.
You will begin by reflecting on your personal connection to peace. What does peace mean to you, and how have your experiences shaped your perspective? You will then interact with others, learning how people from different backgrounds view and work towards peace. Finally, you will deepen your understanding of how peace efforts look on a local, regional, and global scale. Join us to explore how education can be a powerful tool for creating and sustaining peace in our world!
