ECON 235 Working With Data
Overview of Course
This introductory-level course focuses on data management and spreadsheet skills. It assumes no prior knowledge (no prerequisites) and offers a variety of data analysis and visualization examples. We will use Microsoft Excel (required) and work with absolute versus relative references, basic and database functions, PivotTables, and charts. Excel add-ins (such as Solver) and macros (written in VBA) will also be covered. Along the way, we will point out the potential pitfalls involved in using Excel. To tie our work to the voyage, we will learn about indexes (such as the CPI) and build our own Semester at Sea price index from the countries we visit.
This course is also offered as LB 235 through the CSU Department of Liberal Arts.
