Overview of Course

On our voyage we will encounter many forms of Art or Visual Culture, both contemporary and historic. This course will focus on these art forms to consider how each art form is rich with meaning.

Students will learn the elements of design and the vocabulary to discuss, analyze, and compare many forms of art. Using these terms, students will be introduced to how style and image can be driven by belief systems, political agenda, fashion, colonization, and migration (among other things). At the conclusion of our voyage, students will better understand the forces of visual culture that shape, describe, and respond to our world.
